Where's Germaine English

Comment Up

Germaine English was hired two years ago replacing Mark Farrington as Human Resource Director.

Now we learned two days ago that she is no longer with the City of Lake Worth. The city is saying that she is on vacation.

Highly qualified, Ms. English  has 17 years of experience encompassing employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruiting and management. On top of that, she has a law degree from Florida A&M University.

She always was professional, pleasant, cordial and polite to me during our communications.

Will we find out why she is no longer with us?

Rumor has it that an employee that was terminated is now suing for wrongful termination and the HR director bears the fault.

Chemistry doesn't seem to be working for many people at LW City Hall.

Yah the "Chemistry"...BS! This city is so messed up that they cant even get their lies straight anymore. Germaine was hired to reduce the number of employees which she did, SOO MANY EMPLOYEES where unlawfully terminated all because the City Manager directed her to do so and now she became the scapegoat. The Cm saves face...again and heres another employee that has outlived their usefulness. Why cant everyone see that there is a major problem with lake worth? and still kevin Thompson writes an article in the post saying mr. bornstien has boosted moral! What a load of BS!! I used to love this city, what happened?????

A lot could be said about her qualifications but this was not one of them, HR directors are responsible for the smooth and profitable operation of a human resources department. Typically, they supervise and provide consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development, budget, and labor relations. An HR director is also expected to take a leadership role in developing a culture that enables employees to perform in accordance to a firm’s objectives.

HR directors can effectively plan, design, develop and evaluate human resource-related initiatives that support organizational strategic goals. In addition, HR directors can lead performance management, talent assessment, and effective labor relationships, including negotiating and administering labor agreements.

The City have a great opportunity to build long term relationship with their employees and should pay close attention to who will be the next HR DIRECTOR.

Did Bornstein say this or did Kevin write this as an opinion? I don't recall Kevin giving an opinion.

Lynn, why aren't you reporting on the appeal J Golden has filed re: the Gulfstream ?
Their initial lawsuit was shot down by 3 judges, but now I hear they are appealing that decision which means months more of delays before the Hotel can started.
Bummer.

@11:17--true
However, you have to be allowed to do your job--not make decisions at the demand of the CM. If the manager can't accept policy from one of its directors or vice versa, then it's time to sever relations.

@11:32.
What should I write about it?
Three petitioners who have standing are exercising their rights to appeal. That's all I know about it, anonymous.

As usual, Lake Worth gets rid of the decent people, the people that have integrity, are truthful, honest and trustworthy and keep the a**holes that oppress the employees and promote discord and general feelings of unhappiness. Why is William Waters still here? Bornstein? Scott Maxwell? Mayor Pam? Why doesn't anyone see what the real problem is? And why can't something be done about it?

The Gulfstream could start building yesterday. No excuse. What happened to our new information person? She was just hired in July. She stated that transparency was her goal. Oh. Just answered my own question!

Those of us who really new her and saw her work we are glad she is gone so please Lynn check her record and see what kind of person she really was.

if we as a community do not wake up more innocent hard working employees will be railroaded out of here by our corrupt officials. Bornstein you are the WORST!!!! Just the thought of him boils my blood so much!

Lynn @11:36.
You should report on it because it's important LW news, imo.

It's a pending lawsuit. The Petitioners can't talk about it. The city won't and can't talk about it.

And I agree, it is a very IMPORTANT issue, not just for Lake Worth but the value of the vote, with the State and the city reverting to a post facto law that the petitioners do not feel applies.

All of the comments are right on about the HR Director she is a snake and doesn't care about people. And they are correct about the CM dictating who stays and goes and if you look other that your Asst. Elect Utility Dir who is nothing but a yes man and a puppet all the others are gone who did not agree with all the changes in that department and combined they had over 80 years of Utility Experience. Their is no Trust with HR director or CM at all.

It is horrible how they now only hire people for 29 hours a week with no benefits at all. How do they think they can keep good people in this city? The are really using the wrong approach here. I feel bad for all this new wave of employees why would they stay here long term? This city is a mess, I blame the elected, CM, and this HR person, they do a lot of really unethical hiring practices here!

and to follow up they also then fire employees who don't agree with the CM or HR Dir. or they fire employees to cover their asses when they make a mistake to put blame on those employees. But to their credit they keep the YES employees who agree with all the unethical things that go on. Perfect example Asst. Dir Elect
