Our Lake Worth Library is getting a grant of $13,394 from the Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services.

On Tuesday night, the Lake Worth Library is submitting its annual Plan of Service to the City Commission.  A few highlights:

New Initiatives
  • 1. Over the next 2 years the library will renovate the library’s 1940 style restrooms.
  • 2. Replace 1950’s library furnishings to enhance the interior appeal of the library.
  • 3. Over the next 2 years will replace the library’s 15 aging public access computers.
Goals and Objectives
Goal # 1: Create a context for improved property values and quality of life.

Objective: Continue to seek community partners for funding and support of library’s children programming.

Objective: Working with computer partners the library will continue and expand its Early Literacy and Educational Programming with three programs
1. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten – A program to teach parents how to read to and interact with their child to increase literacy for preschool children.
2. Lego Technology Program – Children will use Legos to learn and have fun building items with gears, cogs, moving parts, and even how to program small moving robots.
3. Encouraging Literacy Through Art – In cooperation with Community Partners the library will be bringing a book illustrator to our area to work with children.

This is just another example of our socialistic government. I don't use the library so why should I pay for it through my taxes? I'm tired of giving money to people who do nothing but take, take, take. Let the people who use the library pay for it and leave me out of it.

Bunch of communist liberals in Lake Worth.

To the sarcastic socialist--This is just another amenity provided by our city, like the ball fields, the gym, the beach etc.. Perhaps if you utilized the library you would be a sharper knife in the drawer.

Surely, anonymous at 9:39, proves beyond a doubt there are many Luddites, and Untermenschen amoung us. If you thought you were living in an enlightened age, this Email should wake you up. I bet this guy has a beautiful lawn.

Honestly 11:52? I would think his lawn is probably xeriscaping, not grass. He's not going to want to pay for a nice lawn.

That grant money is made up of my tax money. If people want to read books, there's plenty of book stores that they can buy books with the money they earn instead of using my money to feed their reading habits. Another thing, shouldn't library users be drug-tested before checking out any books that taxpayers paid for? I don't want drug addicts reading books that I and many other hard working taxpayers bought for them.

If people would just stop relying on the government to help them read and learn things....

@1:47...you definitely have a warped sense of humor..take it some where else as you won't make it as a comedian. Democrats don't have a sense of humor.

Oh, why don't you get rid of schools altogether, anony above. It's taxpayer money. What a dunce.

Glad to hear of some support for our incredible library. It's a relief and a far cry from the days of Blackman's P&Z when the library was targeted for demolition so the Lucerne could be expanded and other Lucerne like condos could march from our downtown to the intra coastal. The same idiot Blackman responsible for the no set back condos along federal. What a noodle.

Why would they get rid of that great old furniture? Those wood library tables are gorgeous. You can't buy new furniture of that quality for any amount of money.
